Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained long enough to answer and manage the exchange. Messages stay within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, ordinary server and analytics systems may collect technical facts about the visit:
- Pages viewed, visit length, and page-view times
- Device category and operating system
- Browser type and version
- The referring site, when one is supplied
- The IP address assigned to the device
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They help aggregate traffic, reveal which pages are useful, and show where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, although some functions may then behave differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Route a submitted search to the selected outside provider
- Maintain reliable operation and page speed
- Find and correct technical faults
- Measure which material visitors use
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Kanawha County Criminal History does not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes routing information for the sheriff, Kanawha courts, the West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, and the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a file about another person, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Their own privacy policies control any query submitted to them, along with retention and sharing choices. Review those terms before entering information because this policy does not govern their systems.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Kanawha County offices, West Virginia courts, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search providers. Once a visitor leaves, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before sending personal details.
Certain advertising partners may track your activity across sites to show targeted ads. That tracking runs on their systems, not ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Some information may end up with:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers that process a query a visitor submits
- Advertising networks that serve page ads
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security measures protect collected data, but no internet system is immune from failure or unauthorized access. Security is maintained with care without promising that a breach can never occur.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. A verified notice that a minor supplied data will be handled with a prompt deletion review.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide additional rights. West Virginia's public-record framework appears in the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, while W. Va. Code §15-2-24 separately limits dissemination of state criminal identification records. Those laws govern government records, not a promise that every private-site request has the same scope. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Ask for a copy of data held about you
- Opt out of processing where the law provides that choice
- Seek deletion of qualifying data
